The short Peruvian striker was signed by Gordon Strachan in March 2000, City paying his club Melgar £750,000. A late developer, Zuniga set the Peruvian championship alight by scoring 32 goals in 1999, winning the South American Golden Boot and his feats won him a big money move to Coventry. Strachan gave him a few chances towards the end of the 1999-2000 and despite scoring two goals he looked out of his depth. The following season hopes were high that the nineteen-times capped Zuniga would step into the shoes of the departed Robbie Keane but it didn’t happen and he struggled against physical English defences. After relegation in 2001 Zuniga barely featured and in 2002 he returned to South America to play for Estudiantes of Buenos Aires. Goals were still hard to come by and soon he was back in Peru playing for Universitario and later Sporting Cristal and his old club Melgar.
