Langley was an outstanding youth player for Chelsea and broke into the first team in 1976 and was top scorer two seasons running for the West London club. A fast and exciting striker, he won an England under 21 cap and 3 England B caps. After 43 goals in 150 games for the Blues he joined QPR for £400,000 in 1980 but stayed only one season. A move to Crystal Palace was not a success and in 1983 he moved to Greece to rejuvenate his career with AEK Athens.

In March 1984 with City struggling for goals Bobby Gould rescued him from Greece but in two games he failed to impress the City fans and was released and later played for Wolves, Aldershot and Exeter before a brief spell with Tampa Bay Rowdies. On his return he moved into non-league football with clubs in the Home Counties.
