A small but energetic full back who joined Coventry in December 1999 from AIK Stockholm for £250,000. He looked a useful acquisition with his muscular build and good close skills and after three caps was tipped to become the successor in the national side to the great Roland Nilsson. He was selected for the Sweden squad for Euro 2000.
He suffered a cruciate ligament injury whilst playing for Sweden in Euro 2000 and never recovered fully. In 2001 he married and changed his surname from the common Gustafsson to his married sister’s name. In 2002 he signed for FC Copenhagen but had to retire from the game soon after and became an economics student.
