Peter Reid signed the former England international on a free transfer from Premiership Portsmouth in the summer of 2004 and immediately made him the captain of the side. Sherwood was on massive wages and it was a massive gamble by Reid; the holding midfield player had suffered a broken leg six months previously and never looked fit enough to be a key player at Coventry. His contract was cancelled by mutual consent in the summer of 2005 and Tim hung up his boots.
His career had started at Watford but he made his name at Norwich in the early 1990s. A big money move to Jack Walker’s Blackburn in 1992 resulted him be a key player in Rovers’ ascent to the top of the pile and Tim captained their all-star side to the Premiership title in 1995. A combative midfielder who knew his limitations, Tim won three full caps for England at Ewood Park but in 1999 a £3 million move took him to Tottenham and he made his debut against the Sky Blues. Four years later after a public fall-out with manager Glenn Hoddle saw him sold to Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth and alongside Paul Merson, he helped Pompey to promotion to the Premiership in his first season.
Since leaving City he has been a television pundit and involved in the Icon magazine with Jamie Redknapp and coached with Harry Redknapp at Tottenham.
