The former Leicester City legend played two games on a non-contract basis for the Sky Blues in 2002-03 during the reign of Gary McAllister, his former Leicester colleague and great friend. At the age of 37 the rugged defender was the third oldest debutant for the Sky Blues when he came on as a substitute against Crystal Palace. Two days later his lack of pace and physical condition was exposed in an embarrassing 5-2 defeat at Watford with strikers Tommy Smith and Danny Webber running him ragged. His performance marked the end of an illustrious career that saw him make over 500 appearances, the majority for Leicester, over 21 years.

At Leicester he captained the Foxes to two promotions to the Premier League, in 1994 and 1996 and in 1997 to the League Cup final victory over Middlesbrough. Released by Leicester in 2000, Walsh played a handful of games for Norwich City and was playing for Tamworth when he responded to McAllister’s SOS call.

Walsh writes a column for the Leicester Mercury and appears on BBC Radio Leicester. He also runs an events company with former Rugby Union star Neil Back. He jointly holds the unenviable record of the most red cards in the Football League, 13, with Roy McDonough.
