A slightly-built young midfielder who arrived with a tremendous amount of hype in January 1994. City had failed to secure the talents of Chris Marsden after an impressive loan period and chairman Bryan Richardson promised the fans a ‘top-class’ midfielder instead. It was a costly error, Robertson who cost £250,000 from Rangers, made only four substitute appearances (all defeats) and was patently out of his depth in the Premier League. In the summer of 1995 he signed for Dundee United and made only two starts in two seasons at Tannadice. Sandy was another instance of City being conned by Rangers.
