Roy was Jimmy Hill’s first signing for Coventry in January 1962 from Gravesend & Northfleet. An old team-mate of Hill’s from Fulham and the uncle of Elton John, Dwight had scored one of Nottingham Forest’s goals in the 1959 FA Cup final victory over Luton but broke his leg. His injury took longer to heal and he was released by Forest and joined Gravesend. At Coventry he scored a number of goals from centre forward before switching to the right wing but after the arrival of Humphries he found it hard to get a game. In early 1964 he joined Millwall but played only seven games before moving into coaching with North Kent non-league teams. He coached Dartford, Erith and Tooting over the next fourteen years and in 1968 had a brief spell coaching Detroit Cougars in the NASL. During the mid 1980s he was assistant manager at Catford Stadium, a dog track in South London. He died in 2002.
