Waldock was another of the talented youngsters that Harry Storer unearthed in Derbyshire. He arrived as a 17-year old and was a member of the successful Modern Machines youth team. A skilful left-footed inside forward Ronnie got his opportunity as a replacement for the injured Peter Hill early in the 1952-53 season and scored his first goal on his third appearance, a 4-1 FA Cup win at Bishop Auckland and a week later scored in a 7-2 home win over Torquay. The following season he got more chances and had a healthy scoring rate but with a big squad City cashed in on another talented youngster and sold him to First Division Sheffield United. Despite scoring the winning goal in his first Steel City derby he struggled to win a first team place and less than three years later moved on to Scunthorpe where he netted 45 goals in 92 league games. A move to Plymouth was brief and he was soon moving to Middlesbrough where he had a mixed eighteen months followed by a spell at Gillingham. In 1964 he made his last move to Southern League Margate.
