After starting his career as a Molineux apprentice just after the war Ron spent the best years of his career in his native North Wales with Wrexham. A shrewd inside-forward with a bite in the tackle, Ron joined First Divison Cardiff in 1957 and won five Welsh caps including a game against Brazil in the 1958 World Cup. Another brief spell at Wrexham preceded a £4,500 move to Coventry in March 1960. Billy Frith signed him to add some experience to the Third Division promotion drive. Ron had a good effect initially but the team failed to win promotion. In March 1962 he was one of the first players released by new manager Jimmy Hill and he moved to Chester and later Hereford United. After a coaching spell in Australia he returned to Wales.
