In December 1971 with his two goalkeepers Bill Glazier and Eric McManus injured, Noel Cantwell agreed to take Manchester City’s young home-grown reserve goalkeeper on loan (one of City’s first ever loanees). His baptism was at Old Trafford and he played a blinder as City led 2-0 before drawing 2-2. After two further games Glazier had recovered and Healey returned to Maine Road. With Joe Corrigan as first choice there were few opportunities for him and he played only 30 games in five years. In 1974 he moved to Cardiff and had a long and successful career with the Bluebirds as well as winning two full caps for his adopted country, the Republic of Ireland.  After a spell at Bangor City he was forced to retire from the game through injury.
