John Sillett spotted ‘Nuddy’ playing in his home country as a sixteen-year old and persuaded him to come to Coventry and paying his club Highlanders £10,000. Terry Butcher gave him his debut a year later and he made an instant impact with some dazzling displays and stunning goals. He made 197 appearances for the club and scored 41 goals including an incredible hat-trick in City’s 3-2 win at Anfield in 1995, the first by a visiting player at Anfield for 33 years.
That same season he turned on another virtuoso performance in a crucial game at White Hart Lane and turned a young Sol Campbell into a gibbering wreck with his pace and skill. A year later he turned on another super show in City’s vital end of season win at Wimbledon, netting twice.
His final season at Coventry was hampered by knee injuries and Birmingham signed him in the summer of 1997 after a highly successful seven years at Highfield Road. Blues were unwilling to pay City’s asking price of £1.5 million up front and he signed on a pay-as-you-play basis but within twelve months City had received their full fee.
He stayed three and a half seasons at St Andrews making over 120 appearances and scoring 27 goals before moving to Sheffield United on a free transfer in February 2001.
In 2004 at the age of 31 he could not find a club in England and moved to South Africa to play for Mamelodi Sundowns, one of the richest clubs in the country and signed a two-year deal. They reputedly paid Ndlovu a 3 million Rand (approximately £270,000) signing on fee and when he flew into Pretoria to sign he was treated like royalty. Crowds flocked to see Ndlovu play for the Sundowns and he scored on his debut. Sadly he failed to live up to his publicity and his temperament has also let him down more than once. In 2008 his contract was not renewed and after much speculation he joined lowly Natal-based Premiership side Thanda Royal Zulu.
