Lowe was a burly six foot three inch centre-forward who Eric Black signed on a short-term contract from financially struggling Rushden & Diamonds in April 2004 to boost the flagging play-off challenge. At Rushden he had scored 52 goals in 98 games and had a reputation for scoring from dead-ball situations. After coming on as a substitute in his first game he made his first start at Crewe on Easter Monday and scored City’s consolation goal in the 1-2 defeat. Two days later he was arrested in Rushden for possession of drugs and the club released him from his contract. Lowe, who won 60 caps for his country and represented them at the 1998 World Cup finals, was subsequently cleared of drug trafficking by a court and tried to rebuild his playing career by signing for Jamaican Premier League side Arnett Gardens. He returned to Arnett after brief spells at another Jamaican club Portmore and Miami FC the latter ended after more disciplinary problems.
