A full-back, signed as a 17-year old in 1956, Mick got his opportunity when Charlie Timmins was injured during the 1956-57 season but struggled in his four appearances and was soon playing in the reserves again. In July 1959 he was released and signed for Rugby Town where he impressed enough as a wing-half to be signed for Bradford City in January 1962. After 20 appearances for Bradford he returned to non-league playing for Southern League Burton Albion. Under the managership of Peter Taylor a balding Mick captained the Brewers to success in the Southern League Cup in 1963-64.
