Matt signed on loan from Blackburn in the depressing spring of 2003. The skilful striker had suffered a serious head injury after falling off a motorcycle in the summer of 2002 and his time at City was part of his recuperation. Whilst he looked skilful he did not stand out as Premiership player but managed opportunist goals against Ipswich and Leicester. At the time City could not win a game for love nor money so it is hard to judge Jansen on his games for the club. He returned to Ewood Park but failed to rediscover the form that had seen him selected for the full England squad in early 2002. In 2006 Blackburn released him from his contract and he signed a six-month deal with Bolton but played only a handful of games.
