A product of Plymouth’s youth policy Marc earned a reputation for being a fine full-back after moving to Crystal Palace in 1995. In three seasons at Palace he played over 120 games and helped the Eagles to promotion to the Premier League in his s second season – although they came straight back down. Equally at home in midfield or full-back, Marc signed for Gordon Strachan in the summer of 1998. He was unable to displace Roland Nilsson in his first season at City but was competent at left back. The following season, with Nilsson having left, he played in his preferred right back role but suffered serious ankle ligament damage against Newcastle, which sidelined him for the season. In the relegation season he was in and out of the side and played out of position and was generally out of favour. After Strachan’s departure he regained his place and looked a class player in Division 1 before a knee injury ended his season in January. Since leaving Coventry in 2002 he has helped three clubs to promotion to the Premier League: Wolves (2003), Norwich (2004) and Derby (2007).
