Despite leaving Senegal for France when he was six years old and holding a Belgian passport he chose to play for Senegal and impressed at the 2002 World Cup finals as his country reached the quarter finals. The silky skilled midfielder played for Red Star 93, FC Liege, Club Brugge and Auxerre before Inter Milan signed him in 2003. A serious heart complaint arose in Milan and he never played for Inter but Sam Allardyce had the confidence to sign him for Bolton. Before playing for Bolton he collapsed and had to be fitted with a defibrillator. Medical men advised him to retire but he insisted on playing on and made 20 or so appearances in two years at Bolton. Iain Dowie invited him for a trial in 2007 and he was given a three-month contract. He showed glimpses of his immense talent in several appearances from the bench but then suffered a serious ankle injury in the final home game.
