Keith, the younger brother of Garry Thompson, was a product of City's youth policy and played in the same Youth team as Lloyd McGrath. He got his first team chance whilst still an 17-year old apprentice when Dave Sexton's thin squad was stretched through injury. Keith, a left-sided midfield player cum winger, was an exciting prospect but failed to develop and after loan spells at Wimbledon and Northampton he was sold to Spanish club Real Oviedo by Don Mackay in 1985. He settled well in Spain, learning the language and marrying a Spanish girl but in 1988 John Sillett pursued him to return to Coventry. Keith bought out his contract with Oviedo but made only 15 appearances in three seasons at Highfield Road and in 1991 was released and played in Hong Kong for Sing Toa before returning to Spain where he still resides.
