Gordon Milne signed his former team-mate Craven in the summer of 1973 from Crystal Palace for £42,500. He was the regular centre-half that season but lost his place to Larry Lloyd the following season only to bounce back as a midfield player when Dennis Mortimer left to join Aston Villa. He continued in that midfield anchor role for a season and a half always giving 100% with a robust and aggressive style, which endeared him to City fans. He lost his place when Milne bought Terry Yorath in September 1976 and played his final game for City in an FA Cup tie against Millwall in January 1977. Craven scored only eight goals in his three seasons at the club but two stand out. His first, a rasping shot from the edge of the box in a 2-1 home win over Man City in September 1973 and his best in a thrilling 2-2 home draw against Sheffield United on a Good Friday night in 1975 when he hit a stunning 20 yard volley into the net. Craven played for his first club Blackpool for six years and helped them to promotion to the top flight in 1970 alongside Milne and Tommy Hutchison. In 1971 he joined Crystal Palace and spent two seasons in a struggling Palace side but despite his efforts Palace slid into Division Two in 1973. After leaving Coventry he joined Plymouth Argyle before quitting English soccer and joining Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada. He also played for Calgary Boomers before settling down in California and finishing his career with California Surf. He retrained as a teacher in P.E. and American History and had just begun his teaching career at the time of his death from a heart attack.
