Martinez was one of two Hondurans signed by City in 2000, the other was Ivan Guerrero. A skilful striker Jairo did not get his first team chance until after the club were relegated in 2001 when Roland Nilsson gave him his opportunity. He netted in his second appearance as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Barnsley and four days later scored on his full debut at Gillingham. Inconsistent form and the signing of Lee Mills restricted his appearances and in the summer he rejoined Club Deportivo Motagua in his home country. In 2000 he had represented his country at the Olympic Games in Sydney.
