Horacio Carbonari

The rugged Argentinian central defender was signed on loan from Derby by Roland Nilsson in 2002. Nilsson’s short-lived assistant Jim Smith had signed Horacio for the Rams and thought he could boost the flagging promotion push. It was an ill-judged move with the Argentine looking sluggish and off the pace and he never appeared on the winning side. He returned to Argentina to play for Rosario Central later that year and after retiring through injury in 2005 he was appointed the club’s general manager.
