Eric was one of three youngsters signed from Snowdown Colliery in 1955 (George Curtis and Alf Bentley were the others). A centre-half, he was unable to force his way into the first team regularly because of the form of his friend Curtis and played only 16 games in seven seasons. After being released by Jimmy Hill in 1962 Eric was a teacher at Binley Park School as well as captaining Nuneaton Borough in his spare time.
