A fast, bustling centre-forward who was one of the games great characters. He used to shake hands with the corner flag to celebrate goals and was famous for quoting Shakespeare. Harry Storer signed him from Southampton on transfer deadline day in 1952 but his presence failed to save the club from relegation. He was one of the few bright spots in the next two seasons in Division Three and was top scorer in both campaigns. After a great start to the 1954-55 season Brown was sold to Birmingham to balance the books and went on to score 90 goals in 185 games for the Blues. Eddie played on the losing side in the 1956 FA Cup final against Manchester City and appeared in many early Fairs Cup games for Birmingham. As a boy Eddie studied to become a priest at La Salle college on Guernsey but was evacuated during the war and turned his attention to football. He first played for Preston and after Blues he played for Leyton Orient and Scarborough. After hanging up his boots he trained to be a teacher in his home town.
