The locally-born full-back came through the ranks at City as part of the YTS scheme. He played in the City youth team with Lee Hurst and Dean Kiely and made the first team ahead of them both when named as a substitute for the final game of the 1989-90 season, against newly-crowned champions Liverpool. The experience was a nightmare when he was booked for a challenge on Ray Houghton before he had kicked a ball and City lost 1-6. The following season he made his first start in a League Cup tie against Bolton but was injured. After Terry Butcher’s arrival the uncompromising defender was not in the first team squad and joined his old boss John Sillett at Hereford at the end of the 1990-91 season. Two years at Hereford was followed by two years at Wycombe and he was in the team that won the League Two play-off final at Wembley in 1994. A cruciate injury hampered his career the following season and in 1995 he stepped down to non-league soccer, appearing for Hednesford Town and Burton Albion. Meanwhile he was developing a business career in mobile phones and set up his own company which has been a great success. His last role in football was as manager of Stourport Swifts but following the birth of twins he finally hung up his boots to spend more time with his family.
