The ex-Wolves goalkeeper was one of Jimmy Hill’s few bad buys. Signed by Hill from Reading for £4,000 in August 1962 as a replacement for fans favourite Arthur Lightening his spell at the club was disastrous. In his debut against Southend at Highfield Road he let in four as City lost 3-4, and a week later Watford put six past him. He lost his place soon afterwards to Bob Wesson and played only the occasional game over the next three seasons. In 1964 Southend again made him suffer putting five past him in a 2-5 home defeat. After the arrival of Bill Glazier he was relegated to third choice and in 1965 joined Southern League Wisbech Town. It is believed he moved back to Oxford where he died in 1991.
