Bobby Gould signed Bowman for £175,000 on the recommendation of his assistant Don Mackay but the highly rated Hearts midfielder was never good enough for the First Division. Gould was sacked soon afterwards and whilst Mackay persevered he was a big disappointment. He was sold to Dundee United by Curtis & Sillett in the summer of 1986 and he resurrected his career winning medals and amazingly six full caps for Scotland. He played over 300 games for the Terrors, earning the nickname Psycho for his tough tackling and played on till the age of 38 with Raith Rovers and Forfar Athletic. Dave is the son of former Hearts star Andy Bowman. In the not too distant past he worked in his father-in-law’s florist business. Whilst at Raith he was suspended for 17 games, a Scottish record, for swearing at officials.
