The Scottish international striker came to Coventry on a three-month loan in November 1998 having lost form and confidence at Celtic only months after appearing for his country at the 1998 World Cup finals. He had made his name at Dundee United and Hibernian before joining Celtic in 1997. After the sale of Dion Dublin, Jackson gave Gordon Strachan more attacking options but Darren Huckerby and Noel Whelan rose to the occasion and Jackson made only three substitute appearances before returning to Celtic. Soon after returning to Scotland he joined Hearts but his best days were behind him and he never added to his 28 full caps. Whilst at Celtic he suffered from the brain disease hydrocephalus.
