When Gordon Strachan was forced to sell Robbie Keane to Internazionale he was given around half the money to find a replacement and paid Norwich £6.5 million for the Welsh striker. He started poorly netting only four league goals before Christmas, two of which were penalties and only really showed his best form after the arrival of John Hartson in February. Bellamy was not prepared to stay after City’s relegation and City recouped their outlay by selling him to Newcastle. Four tempestuous years at St James’ Park scoring crucial goals and playing in the Champions League. Bellamy then moved to Celtic on loan in 2005, where he contributed to their Scottish Premier League campaign. Following his stint in Scotland, he signed for Blackburn Rovers, continuing his consistent goal-scoring form.
In 2006, Bellamy joined Liverpool, playing under Rafael BenÃtez. He helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final in 2007 before transferring to West Ham United. Later, he played for Manchester City, where his performances remained impactful. Bellamy also had two memorable spells with his hometown club Cardiff City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2013 before retiring in 2014.
Post-retirement, Bellamy transitioned to coaching and management. He began his coaching career at Cardiff City, managing their U18 team. In 2019, he joined Anderlecht as an assistant coach under Vincent Kompany, also following him to take the same role at Burnley. In July 2024, Bellamy was appointed as head coach of the Wales national team having won 3 of his 78 caps for them whilst at City.
