One of several youngsters given a chance by Billy Frith – he was only seventeen when he made his debut. The young striker lacked inches but had an eye for goal and Jimmy Hill gave him a couple of games in the spring of 1962. A loan spell at Lockheed preceded his release from City and Frith, by now manager at Chelmsford signed him for the Essex side. He became a non-league nomad playing for 15 different clubs in 12 years before moving into non-league management with Coleshill and later Willenhall Town.
