Harry Warren signed the tall full-back from Hinckley Athletic in October 1956 and around a year later he got his first team chance owing to injuries to Lol Harvey and Charlie Timmins. Of his 23 appearances at right or left back only six were won as City slipped towards the Fourth Division. He played only a handful of games the following season but was controversially called up in early 1960 to play as a forward against Bury when Jack Boxley’s car broke down on the way to the ground. Brian returned to Hinckley the following summer and played several hundred games for them and for Burton Albion over the next eight years.
