1987 FA Cup winner - despite missing the final through injury, manager John Sillett made sure that Borrows (who had been ever present that season) received a medal
1989-90 Player of the season
Don Mackay signed Brian from Bolton Wanderers for £80,000 in 1985 where he had made a big name in the lower divisions after being released from Everton. Apart from the rare injury Borrows was the club’s regular right back for eight seasons, missing less than 20 games. Luck was against him, though, when he twisted a knee against Southampton, seven days before the 1987 FA Cup Final and he was forced to watch the match from a hospital bed. A stylish and intelligent full back with a good turn of speed, in another era he would have been selected for England but his only representative honour was a ‘B’ cap in 1990. ‘Bugsy’, as he was affectionately known, scored very rarely but converted the occasional penalty. He remains a very respected figure among former players and fans alike. His understanding with Trevor Peake, Brian Kilcline and Steve Ogrizovic formed the foundation stone upon which George Curtis and John Sillett were able to rebuild the club's fortunes after years of under achievement.
He left the club in 1997 and joined Swindon before returning to the club to work in the Academy.
