The Icelandic midfielder was one of Eric Black’s first signings in February 2004. After a season at Newcastle in 1997-98 when he failed to break into the first team Bjarni played for Genk in Belgium, Stoke City and Bochum in Germany where Black found him. Originally signed on loan, Bjarni created a big impression as the Sky Blues won four away games in a row and played some of their best football since relegation. His crosses and corners created many chances and he also got on the score sheet himself; his first goal in the 4-1 win over Preston was a stunning dipping shot that won tumultuous applause. After Peter Reid’s arrival he only started three games and was left in the cold. In December 2004 he joined Plymouth but was there less than a year before returning to Iceland to play for Akranes.
