Barry was one of a glut of talented young players who came through the club's nursery club, Modern Machines in the late 1940s. Along with Peter Hill, Reg Matthews and many others Barry eventually got his first team chance. A centre-forward he ultimately did not score enough goals but not before a terrific hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Swindon. He moved to Lincoln and also had a good spell at Northampton before moving into non-league football with Wisbech, Brierly Hill and Abergavenny. After football he became a potter in the Worcester area.
