Andy was an apprentice at Coventry City and played in the 1982-83 youth team with Lloyd McGrath and Perry Suckling. A stocky, tough tackling defender or midfield player, he was given a baptism of fire by Bobby Gould at Anfield, coming on as a substitute in a 0-5 defeat. The following season he made six further appearances, either at right back (deputising for Kirk Stephens) or as a substitute. His final appearance was a sub at Chelsea when City lost 2-6. The following summer he was released and Gould signed him for Bristol Rovers but his off-field activities quickly curtailed his contract. He moved to Ireland and played for Sligo Rovers, Drogheda and Longford Town and in the early 1990s was reported to have won £1/4 million on the Irish lottery.
