A six foot four inch blond centre-half who was spotted playing non-league football for Halesowen and signed by John Sillett in the summer of 1990. Terry Butcher gave Andy his first team chance in early 1991 and four days after his first game at Leeds he scored the winning goal on his home debut against Luton. He soon displaced the legendary Brian Kilcline who it was believed Butcher wanted to get out of the club. The following season he built a good central defensive partnership with Peter Atherton and despite City almost getting themselves relegated the defence let in only 44 goals. Under Booby Gould Pearce improved but with Phil Babb a ready-made replacement Gould sold Pearce to Sheffield Wednesday for £500,000 in 1993.
Andy was a regular for two seasons at Hillsborough before joining Wimbledon for £600,000 in 1995. His career with the Dons was cut short by injury after just seven games. In 1999 he signed for Aldershot Town and since hanging his boots up he has set up his own business providing Health and Safety advice to the construction industry around Birmingham.
