He began his career at Newcastle United, joining their youth academy at age nine and making his first-team debut in 2014. To gain experience, Armstrong had loan spells at Coventry City, Barnsley, and Bolton Wanderers, notably scoring 20 goals in 40 appearances for Coventry during the 2015–2016 season. In 2018, he transferred to Blackburn Rovers, where he became a key player, scoring 49 goals in 130 league appearances. His impressive form earned him a move to Southampton in 2021, where he continues to compete in the Premier League. Internationally, Armstrong has represented England at various youth levels, contributing to the under-20 team's victory in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
